Lifesteps for PrEP Study

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is an effective way to help protect people from getting HIV. PrEP works best when taken every day, and for a lot of people, different things can get in the way of them taking their medication regularly.

The purpose of the LifeSteps study is to look at different ways to help people overcome barriers and stay as protected as possible by taking their PrEP medication regularly.

People who participate in the study will be tested for HIV and PrEP level, and they may also receive text message reminders and up to six counseling sessions with a trained nurse interventionist.

To be eligible you must:

  • Be assigned male at birth
  • Have sex with men
  • Be HIV negative
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Are taking PrEP or about to start taking PrEP (Truvada or Descovy)
  • Own a smartphone with texting capability

Study participation can be done remotely through video chat, and testing can be done at home
